Meet Tom Hambleton
Tom hambleton, film composer, sound designer, has over twelve years of experience in film music and film audio industry. His company, Undertone Music, Inc., specializes in original music composition and unique, highly professional audio for film. Tom graduated in 1985 with a major in music performance from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin.
One of his special abilities is his creativity taking sound elements and integrating them, rhythmically and/or instrumentally, into his actual music and sound compositions. He is always exploring the relationship of sound to picture and searching for ways to further develop the connection between the senses of sight and hearing. His approach includes a studied musical technique, sonic manipulation, unusual recording techniques and metaphorical use of sounds not normally associated with the image. His most recent project was with dutch animator/filmmaker rosto, JONA/TOMBERRY, which will premier at the CANNES film festival 2005. Past work includes Tom Schroeder’s animated films A PLAN (2005); RIDING WITH HARV (2002); SIMPLE ANIMATION SAMPLER (1993 & 2000); SCRAPS (1998) & DESERT DIVE INN (1995). A documentary by DIVAN was completed in 2003, premiering at TRIBECCA FESTIVAl in NYC, and having a theatrical release at the FILM FORUM in 2004. Currently he is working with Lisa Paclet, graduate candidate at the gobeling animation design school in Paris on her film RAPPIN ‘BOUT 23 YEARS and re-designing the sound for the rosto a.d. short BEHEADED.
Critics at the Cleveland film festival said this about the sound for SCRAPS: “great clarity of elements in a complicated mix. a powerful blending of all the elements.” “one of the most technically challenging sound designs I have heard. Each sound a picture in itself!”
